The
Victoria Lion's Club is planning to publish 10,000 calendars.
Rather than including photographs of Newfoundland and Labrador, we have chosen
to use digital versions of the works of Newfoundland artists. In addition
to showing the beauty of the province, these paintings capture the emotional
link that the artists feel to the culture, the landscape, the wildlife, and
the history. Each painting has an impact beyond its subject matter.
For within the province interested in visiting areas that they have not experienced before and for visitors from outside the province, we have included information about places to stay, things to buy, and things to do within various regions of the province.
Once all the calendars are sold, a drawings will be held, and one lucky person will win a free air trip to the province for two during 2005 sponsored by CanJet. In addition, for each 100 calendars a Lions Club buys, its name will be entered for a draw of five nights accommodations in NL during 2005. (Click here for further information.)
The N.J. Downey Photography and Custom Framing Gallery have given permission to use nine of their prints which will include works by Ian Sparkes (who is well know for his paintings of Harbour Grace) and five other artists. Local artist Peter Sampson of Carbonear has also donated the use of three of his prints. The calendar will be 11" wide by 17" high.
